Frightfully Delicious Brews for Halloween

The temperatures are cooling, the leaves are falling, and Halloween is quickly creeping upon us. You may be too old to go begging for candy from your neighbors, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a treat or two. From ciders to meads to ales, there’s a spellbinding libation for everyone.

B. Nektar – Zombie Killer
Cider
ABV: 5.5%

Tart cherry sweetness up front with full, yet crisp fermented cider. Heavy apple skin complements the cherry. Sweet, creamy honey rounds the flavor and balances the tartness of the cherry. Light carbonation lifts the flavor while the honey smooths the overall mouthfeel. Finishes crisp and clean.

Boulder Beer Co. – Shake

Chocolate Porter
IBU: 39 | ABV: 5.9%

Shake is like candy for adults. Dark black in color with rich, sweet aromas and flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, and caramel that is complete with a delicious chocolate finish and velvety smoothness.

DANSK MJØD – VIKING BLOD

Mead
ABV: 19%

Based on a recipe formulated more than 300 years ago, this Nordic honey wine is made with hibiscus, which creates a soft, citrus-like flavor, and a floral aroma.

Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co. – Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale

Pumpkin Beer
IBU: 14 | ABV: 10%

It’s not Halloween without pumpkins. This ale is aged in fresh bourbon barrels, the sweetness of caramel and vanilla are imparted upon the brew and complement its spicier base. At 10 percent ABV, this robust, limited release seasonal makes for a flavorful sipping beer to slowly warm up with as the weather cools

Stone Brewing – ///Fear.Movie.Lions

Double IPA
IBU: 60 | ABV: 8.5%

///Fear.Movie.Lions is Stone Brewing’s take on an East Coast IPA. Juicy, hazy, and smooth, it has just the right touch of West Coast bitterness in the finish. This double IPA is juiced up with massive tropical & citrus notes. The mild bitterness and relatively dry body compliment the style, and the residual maltiness rounds it out. Lingering lime peel and tropical fruit stand out on the finish.

Left Hand Brewing Company – A Blessing and A Curse

Double IPA
IBU: 90 : ABV: 9.5%

This double IPA delivers a synthesis of hops from opposite hemispheres with an aggressive disposition of citrus, pine, and tropical fruit characteristics for a delightfully juxtaposed consequence. Count your blessings, accept the curse.
